Buying Postcards
GENERAL INFORMATION

In each county, places are shown A-Z ,
Where we have numerous cards of one place, it has a separate page with a link from the county page. This should pop up as a new window. When you have finished with that page (or chain of pages in some cases) close the window to return to the County page.

We file English and Welsh cards in accordance with the locations given in Bartholomews Gazetteer 1986 (the last edition), but we use an older version for Scottish counties as 'old counties' seem to be preferred there. Sorry if we don't please everyone. It doesn't help when county boundaries change. If you can't find a place, try the adjacent county or e-mail the place name to us and we'll point you in the right direction.

How to Use the Site

The quickest way to go to a specific page is through the Site Map tab on the left which has an alphabetic listing of all pages by County/Town.

Understanding Descriptions of Cards

For each image we give:
a) Our code (vital for matching images up with stock)
b) a 4 digit date in the form 1114 (for November 2014). This will only appear for new cards put on after August 2014
c) The caption on the card (or brief description if uncaptioned)
d) RP if its photographic (no RP = printed)
e) The publisher details and any codes that are immediately visible
f) A date where possible. We try to be as accurate as we can using:
    i) the date on the postmark (though sometimes cards were used well after their production
dates). The date isn't always visible so we estimate from the Monarch shown, denomination
         and colour of the stamp
ii) the publishers code where documented (mostly Valentines published)
iii) where unused, the publisher's logo (e.g. Bamforths and Salmon logos are well documented)
or when the publisher actually produced cards. Both give strong clues
iv) the 'written' date by the sender or clues in the message
g) Although cards are scanned in low resolution for security, all faults are described
h) The price

Please Note: vertical cards are scanned horizontally and then rotated. In some instances this adds a white border down the left side

Ordering From the Website

NB. If the card is marked SOLD it is not currently available. The 'SOLD' is removed if we get another copy.
On the listing pages (e.g. Art cards, maps) entries in red are not available.
To Order:
E-mail us the card code, Town and County using the Contact Us page or directly on
sjones@sjones41.freeserve.co.uk. We can take the card(s) out of stock to reserve them for you and will let you know the total including postage. (Current postage rates are on the Contact Us Page).
We can accept payment by UK cheque/Postal Order or Paypal (a Paypal invoice can be sent if you like), but please contact us before sending payment so that the card(s) can be reserved for you and doesn't 'go' to someone else before your letter arrives.
We cannot accept Credit Card Payments.
Occasionally we miss marking a card as sold but our ordering process does check that the card is definitely still available before you pay.
